New Key Blank...wrong Size

Pah!

Despite ordering before properly, I have gone and bought a couple of key blanks of the longer style, rather than the shorter. What a prat!

Anyhow, is it still possible to use these, can't see quite why not....anyone with more intelligence know ??!

Yes you can,not a problem,all you get is the key sticking out of the ignition barrel by 2 to 3mm depending on length of blade.

Good luck getting it cut, Timson just refused saying they cant take responsibility of cheap blanks snaping in ignition barrels. WTF

Thanks chaps! My local shoemender person has cut them before for me no problems, so should be ok....

I was told timpsons were sued by some muppet who after forcing the new key in his ignition barrel, it messed up the immobilizer,so they arent allowed to do any more.A timpsons employee told me this.

I had a blank cut in timpson only 2 weeks ago.. My local one is in a tesco store, he cut it whilst I shopped and even transfered the insides over... Worked a treat first time, cost £7..

Your lucky then,a lot of locksmiths/key cutters now refuse to cut keys/blades that are not theirs and won't guarantee that they would work especially if they didn't supply them.

Yeah the fella did say to me that he cant guarantee it as its not a blade that they supplied but he was happy to cut it for me...

Ah well that makes more sense. he didnt really explain why so made me think why would they take responsibility when it should lie in the company i bought the key off. its the 2nd key and wanted to get it sorted for the next owner

I bought a 'eBay special' the it cost £15 to get cut 2 weeks later the other half 'who doesn't drive the car' went to get something out the car and instead of pushing the button on the key decided toput key in door half the way and try and turn it and snapped the new key into bits it was the only one I had, luckily enough I had just taken out key cover on my car insurance 2 days before for a grand total of £15 for the year, I called them and told them I had lost the key, only so I could keep the broken one as a spare the aa come out with a gen lexus key cut it and programmed it to the car, jackpot in my books new genuine lexus key for £15 carnt really complain at that lol
