Duel Mass Flywheel Gone!

Recommended Posts

Had my is220d since April. Overall pretty pleased with it. The car is a 58 plate with 126k on the clock. Recently I've felt the clutch slip so got a price from a garage that I use. The price was £395 for the clutch. After they had had it a few hours they called me up to say the dmf had gone at a cost of £825. I've gone ahead and got the work done but I'm seriously having doubts about this car. The dpf was blocked a while ago and that cost £500 at Lexus to sort. Is it worth keeping? Are these cars reliable?

I had my Is220d at 123k and loved it to bits, but I exchanged it for an IS250 for £750 on top of it. The IS250 is 132k miles. When I part exchanged my IS220d, the dealer told me he was listening in for the dual mass flywheel when pressing clutch as they are known to go on these cars and cost £800 to fix. He said there was a bit of sound, but not enough to be worried about. I never got good mpg from my IS220d, somewhere between 29 to 33 mpg average. I am getting the same from IS250.

I have heard that IS250 should be more reliable. Will see how things go. There is an issue with carbon build up in the engine of the IS250. As mine has quite a few miles on it I think I might be hit with the problem sooner or later.

Considering the cars I have had in the past and some of the cars my friends have, these cars are very reliable. Problem is that when something goes wrong, it cost and arm and a leg to fix it.
