I have tried about 4 or 5 different diagnostics machines on my LS400 and none of them will communicate

Has anyone had any luck with a machine and if so which one was it ?

Hi

I tried a few on mine a while back without joy, then took it to a friend who works on top end cars he had a Bosch Reader can't remember which model reader it was but it wouldn't be a cheap one knowing him. Also Mine was a Mk4 VVTi , some of the cheaper diagnostic readers may work on the earlier models but not on the MK4.

That's the one, great fun, I had no fault codes, which was nice to know as I had just got the car

Adam, I hope you are luckier than me with your "mini-vci J2534" diagnostic tool + cd's. Mine arrived and when I tried using it, it didn't work. I thought it was just me being low-tech, but even my lpg installer, who is very computer savvy, couldn't get any diagnostic readings using it. Big disappointment and money down a Chinese drain. No response from the supplier either. Scam? Let us all know how you get on with yours.

I can vouch for the one Ian bought. He tested it on my Ls a few years back and it worked perfectly. He bought his on Ebay though.

I will update when it arrives

Hopefully it is all ok

If it is a pain to set up maybe thats all it is with yours. But we will find out when it arrives

Won't be putting that anywhere near my Ls thank you very much.

Last words from that video is "it seems to do the job"

It'll do for me

If I wanted to open up a diagnostics shop and charge £150 a go to plug into cars then I clearly wouldn't be using this but it is for my own use so I don't see the problem really

Won't work on windows 7 and hit and miss with vista as well

Also heard the word "unstable" .

I have no doubt that you are entitled to use the device on your car and despite what anyone says on the forum will do so.The experience of others is often a painsaver.Confusious say "Many times as dog bitten man but dog not often bitten by man this makes dog wary of strange men who sell fake chinese products.

I bought mine off fleabay and got stung. The seller was in Hong Kong. Lots of Chinese fakes out there.

The one I bought from eBay was from a UK supplier, So I could have relatively easily returned it if it had not worked.

Everything is made in China now, I suspect the "copies" half the time are made in the same factory, but sold to a local supplier....

It read the codes fine, a few of the other options were a bit iffy, but for the price, it did the job, picked up on Ruud's sticky VVti solenoid. I had the software loaded on an old XP laptop

My brother has Bosch, tech stream and he's got the Toyota/Lexus diagnostic computer thing which he's used on my car just to test, he can do all sorts with that, he was telling me if I wanted anything reprogrammed on my car, I said no leave it as it is.

I have the Autel DS708. I bought it after being told it would work on my 95 LS400. It didn't. I phoned Autel and asked a tech this time and said unlikely. Should work on the newer ones with the obd2 sockets though. Anyone needing stuff read near Dunfermline just let me know.

I took my mk 4 to a garage who said they specialise in lexus amongst other cars as i think i have a fuel consumption issue, he tried 2 diagnostic machines, both wouldnt connect, he didn't charge me. so it looks like i will have to go to the main dealer.
