I'm bringing up a subject that was touched upon a short time ago, ( by myself )

Driving Lights !!

I talked to a Lexus Technician who confirmed that the Driving Lights next to the Front Fog Lights are in fact blanked off,

No wiring, nothing.

My question,

Has anyone tried to mackle something together that has in fact worked as driving lights ?

If not, the next question would be, how do I remove this Fog Light cluster on my LS430 ?

Do you know, I have searched all over for a Workshop Manual, to no avail.

Thank goodness for this Forum.

The lexus technician is correct - when i had my mark 3 and 4 i once removed the lamps just to clean around them and noticed they were blank - when i bought my ls430 i was hoping to change the bulbs but left them alone after reading i had to either remove the bumper or go through the wheel arch - i didnt really fancy doing either.

I think the hardest part is sourcing a pair of foglights with the holes for the bulbs rather than blanked off - i thought USA had DRL but having looked at that auction site have noticed the holes are also blanked!

Sorry couldnt help any further

This is a situation left to your own initiative ,if you feel you need to drive with running lights on in the daytime just put on the side lights .I would not mess about with the wiring sytem or the electrical supply on a Lexus ,it is a very intricate balanced out system that is designed for the components it is servicing and any addition, however small could lead to glitches all over the place. The workshop manual does not refer to it because it is not in the original spec nor is it an accessory so it is not designed to incorporate them.In countries that say daytime lights are compulsory the car will have a different loom and relay system.Drl is not compulsory in the States some Scandanavian countries are compulsery because its dark all the time in winter.

Thanks for the input guys.

I'm also of the opinion, " leave well enough alone"

And again, had it been an easy, slip a fuse in place, I could cope with that !

I have no intention of messing with the electrics, not on a car like this.

Thanks, again .

Update on this subject, I have been advised by My mates in the USA that daylight running lights became standard on the 1999 LS400 and apparently had been standard on the Canadian version on the 97 model so that explains why a cluster provision was made for them.
