Up bright and early to remove the rear speaker on the parcel shelf.

I struggled for ages only to find out, after a call to Leicester Lexus, the following.

To remove the speaker behind the centre of rear seat,

1. Remove the seat bases.

2. Unbolt and remove the seat backs.

3. Unclip the Quarter Trims.

4. Remove the Parcel Shelf.

5. Unbolt Speaker.

6. Fork out £400 for new speaker.

7. Put Ron in the Recovery Position !!!!

Wow, that's one expensive speaker, I can buy a whole Stereo for that! Or a Plasma TV !

The speaker is disconnected, and will remain so for the time being. :hehe:

You can get them re-coned, surf the internet there are quite a few companies that can do it. Mike

Also plenty of hi-fi bass speakers for speaker builders should be about.....

Thanks guys,

Found a specialist just 5 miles from me,

The big job is getting the speaker out, It will be a much warmer day than today when I tackle that problem.

Well done. You need that Bass speaker working not just too massage your spine but too get that warmth in the sound. Don't forget too let us know how you get on once its been repaired. Mike

I set about the task this morning Jimmy, hoping I could just spring the back shelf out, no such luck !

I did manage to unbolt the speaker, but it was Manhole in reverse !

You know of course that Manholes are circular because it's impossible to then drop one down the drain.

The speaker is the same, no way was that thing coming through the Parcel Shelf.

The first warm dry day I'm free I will do a photo record of the inevitable disaster as I strip out the seating, watch the Air Bags go off as I remove the quarter trims, LoL

If airbags are involved in ANY proceedure disconnect the Battery negative before starting the job, just make sure you have any radio codes etc available before doing so.

Also check the impedence of the sub woofer,I know on the earlier models it is only 2 Ohms so if you do replace it make sure it matches.

would we encounter such problems with the LS400 s ??

Thanks guys.

Good point Steve, however, I have a problem there, for whatever reason the original Drivers Manual wasn't with the car when I bought it, I bought the one I have via E-Bay.

Would I be right in thinking that Lexus might be able to help there ?

Yes you would - try removing the starter motor! ha ha

Lexus should be able to supply one but sit down before the price is announced!

What did you buy on eBay? There are some OEM ones on there but all in the USA, IIRC the manuals cover both LHD and RHD versions so even with the postage it may be cheaper than Lexus UK.

I bought a Drivers Handbook and Sat Nav guide ostensibly British,

the only difference I have found so far is on a couple of Sat Nav menu options.

My earlier Q was referring to removal of that rear speaker !!
