How To Change Auxillary Belt?

Recommended Posts

How do I get the tension off the pulley to change the aux belt. It looks like the top one in the middle but I can't see how it moves. On other cars I've had there was a hole on the arm where a lever went so as to release the tension. Thanks in advance.

This is my turorial on the mk1, the mk2 is the same except the fans are electric so the fan isn't connected to the front of the water pump. Makes life a little easier for changing the belt on the mk2.

IanS200 and Tigerfish, Thanks for your excellent pics and info. I did the job this morning in under half an hour. I had my 14mm socket and big bar on yesterday but thought if this breaks or I turn it the wrong way or something snaps,I'm in the clarts so decided to seek advice. We're going to Harrogate for a few days next week and certainly didn't want to risk that belt. £27 from Lexus Newcastle but worth every penny for peace of mind and another little job done on my 'new' car.
