When I press slide, it moves 30mm back and returns to closed. Same as tilt, press it and it moves as if its going to open, then just shuts again.

I checked if it was a loose wire but all seem fine.

Seems like it's hitting an obstruction and kicking in the safety over-ride.

either try wd40 on what bit of rail you can see when it opens or only other option is to remove roof lining and inspect all mechanism i'm afraid.

Does it open 30mm and then close again all on its own?if so can only suggest you have a fault somewhere, mine opens 3/4 of the way and if you want it to open all the way you have to press the slide switch a second time.

I don't have the wiring diagrams for the IS200 Moonroof/Sunroof but going by the LS400 design there are 2 limit switches which detect when the S/roof is either fully closed or fully open, if the fully open one is faulty it may default and reclose the S/roof.

It may also be a failsafe system which automatically closes the S/R if there is a mechanic problem preventing it fully opening to protect both the mechanism, motor and control ECU.

You can on most models operate the sunroof manually by removing the trim around the operation switches and inserting a key into the mechanism, take a look in your owner's manual where this should be detailed.

If you try and wind the sunroof back manually and you feel a resistance at the same point the sunroof stops and then recloses under power it would then point to a mechanical defect perhaps something jammed in the runners.

There's no place to put a key under the panel, but it does look like a sensor problem. The mechanism all seems to be working. Can I buy sensors and replace? The last thing I want to do is send to a dealer to fault find..... I'm not that rich!!
