Hi fellow Lexuns

Brought back the issue of uneven side wear on my 23k mark4 After buying it last July with 18k on the clock all the tyres were wearing evenly the rear tyres were new.the front tyres were the originals therefore 14 years old.

After 4k of motorway trips down south the nearside front lost all tread on outer edge ,after taking advice off the forum had the car laser tracked on all teletrimy; result no issues. There was some perishing of the rubber on the nearside tyre cracking of the sidewall etc.

Took some advice from Lexus Glasgow who suggested the side wall could be losing its strengh allowing the tread to run unevenly to one side.

Replaced the tyres on the front with two new Falkens .Result after 500 miles tyres wearing evenly on both sides.

I think that the previous owner had the tyres swopped about when the car was being sold and had only put on the new tyres as reccommended because he did mention when we picked the car up his garage had said the tyres should be replaced on age alone.

It would have saved me alot of hassle if he had mentioned the fact the fronts were too old to be on the car and be replaced as soon as.

It just shows that the history of the car is not always in the service records in fact on this car there was no entries in the service schedule apart from the Lexus first service because of its low mileage.

Very good point.

Tyres like cambelts both contain rubber of some sort which deteriorates with age and atmospheric conditions so like a cam belt should be replaced either when they are worn to the legal limit or if they reach a certain age whichever comes 1st.

Tyres have a manufactured date stamped on them. Whether they did this 14 years ago I know not!
