Can everyone confirm what oil they are using on their is220d, guy I know runs a Toyota dealer says to use Toyota Premium FE 5w30 C2 (low ash oil) which is what I would have thought. Castrol, Mobil and Total all recommend C2 spec oil, but when I went to my local lexus/Toyota dealer the parts guy gave me A1/B1 ordinary Toyota Fuel economy 5w30 (he said that they use it to service all D4Ds!!) - this is what it says in the handbook and when I emailed lexus they forwarded me a copy of the oil page in the handbook. Help!!! I'm thinking of buying low ash Mobil 1 5w30, I find it seriously strange a dpf equipped car not running low ash oil.

Cheers

Fully synthetic 5-30 castrol edge I think I used last time !!!

That's exactly what I used. I don't know what was put in her when we got her but the car is running sweeter and a few more mpg into the bargain. Turbo not so whistlely either so I dread to think of what crap was in there. I have been using Castrol for over 20 years now in all sorts of guises and have a lot of faith in it eg pug 309gti 200k when sold in good order and scooby 180k and still going strong + several others

The Lexus service manual states ACEA C2 5W30 or 0W30 only for 2008 and later.

The manual permits the use of B1 oil for 2005-2007 models.

The specification of C2 is essentially identical to A1/B1 with the exception that C2 places upper limits on ash, whereas there is no limit on ash in A1/B1.

I got the service manual from the lexus EU technical web site. This is taken from the summary maintenance schedule.

Happy days buddy, 3 euro per hour or something?

I should point out that I misread the awkwardly written summary sheet.

My post above should read: C2 for Aug 09 and later; B1 for Nov 2005-Jul 09.

I am even more confused now, 2 lexus dealers I contacted use C2 oil, I've had a new engine under warranty - what does that fall under? lol although I'm betting that Aug 09 is the beginning of IS220d with more mpg and cheaper tax!

Cheers
