Keeps Popping Out Of 3Rd Gear!

Just recently my IS220D keeps popping out of 3rd gear. Not all the time but i can kind of feel like when its not gone in properly so I hold my hand on the stick until changing into 4th. It happens more in say traffic when i drop down into 3rd and am just cruising along and the stick just jolts out of the gear with a rattle/grinding noise until I clutch in and put it back.

Any ideas anyone?

My old Nissan used to pop out of third and fifth now and then. Didn't think much of it and ignored it. Prob did it once or twice a week. Couple of months later the gearbox went and I couldn't engage any gears.

Moral of the story is get it looked at!!

As Chris suggests get it looked at sooner than later, could be anything fom a simple adjustment on the gear selector to worn selector forks in the gearbox.

Try and find a local reputable specialist, Lexus will probably want to replace the complete gearbox!

The car has done 96,000. Its only 3rd gear and only now and then. i think its just not engaging sometimes. it weird but i can tell when its not gone in properly, there is a slight difference in feel. When it does it like that i can push the gear stick back to neutral easily with 1 finger, without the clutch been depressed, like its not locked in.

I will take your advice though and get it looked at.

Thanks everyone!

HI all, if you have read any of my previous posts you will know I am having an issue with my gearbox on my is220d as its keeps popping out of 3rd gear. I literally have to hold my hand on the gear lever or it just pops out.

I have been told its the syncro mesh and it isnt going to get any better.

I am thinking about biting the bullet before anything major happens and part ex it in against another lexus.

What i would like is anyones views on the IS250 auto. I wanted an auto to start with but went for the diesel thinking it would be cheaper to run but from what i have heard there is really no difference. Is this true??

I am looking at the following car on autotader http://www.autotrade...92352?logcode=p

It has less mileage than mine and fits the bill to what i need.

Would anyone here give me some pros and cons for the petrol auto or should i stick with a 220d??

One think i know is i need to get rid of this one before it goes bang on me!!

Any help appreciated
