I seem to remember reading recently that there's a cable (maybe accelerator cable?) that can be adjusted to prevent 1st gear being selected too early. Does anyone know if that's right? Occasionally it seems that when I'm at a roundabout for instance, it changes to first when 2nd would be better. It's not really a problem, but if it can be fixed by a simple adjustment some advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Phil

The cable you refer to is the kickdown cable shown in the picture below.

The cable is shown correctly adjusted as there is a specific adjustment proceedure but IIRC if you slacken the cable the gears will change up earlier and if it is tighter more slowly.

The gear change downs are also controlled by the road speed and load of the vehicle via the wheel sensors so adjusting this cable may not have the effect you are looking for.

Ok Steve, thanks for that. I don't think I'll touch it as it's not really too much of an issue, just not 100%. I'll wait until I take it next to the excellent Grove Garage in Hove, they seem very knowledgeable about these cars.
