today at the traffic lights the car just stalled. switched off by itself.

started her back up and continued driving. after 4 miles the car stalled again.

now the vsa, trc and engine light are on.

this happened 40miles after i put fuel in from a station i never used before.

could this be crappy fuel ?

will i need a diagnostic test i guess -

radiator fan ?

what connection would that have ?

I'd hazard a guess that if the cooling fans have packed in, the engine might shut down to avoid overheating. No idea if such a failsafe is in place on the IS. However, an old Escort I had many years ago would stall when stationary if engine bay temps got too high. Traced it to a faulty/poor earth strap

I guess it could be poor fuel. Add some more when you can, even 1/4 tank of some new fuel would help. Consider some 97RON to compensate.

If it isn't fuel I would start by checking/cleaning the throttle body. That is normally the reason for stalling issues.

right, I have gone back to the car and it started up fine but with the vsc, trc and engine lights on.

idling sweet and smooth.

I tried starting in the morning and it fired up for 5 seconds then switched off.

it does this randomly.

scared to drive it as it might stall on me on the busy roads!

over the weekend I done 720miles cross country trips and it never missed a beat and pulls solid through the rpm's.

fans were kicking in as they should.

as soon as I come local to my area at speed of 20mph the car stalled.

now it sometimes fires up when it wishes too.

will get a diagnostic done and take it from there but can it still be tested if the car wont fire up ?
