You'll need the part number on the old disc, so you'll have to get the DVD out first. The web site will then tell you which disc-set to order. They only come as packs of 4 DVDs (one for Nordic countries, one for Western Europe, one for Central Europe and one for Eastern Europe) and cost about €140 for a set.

If' you've verified the part number of the disc, you can often find UK discs for sale cheap on eBay from sellers in Poland/Norway/Italy, etc. (Typically around £50-70 for the latest disc)

Sorry to hijack your thread but does anyone know if there's any advantages to having a DVD based Sat Nav over the CD based one?

And if the DVD system is better is it easy to swap the CD for a DVD based one?

Thanks :)

Very difficult to swap them - it isn't just the disc, it is the nav unit and the screen.

The DVD based system allows one disc to cover Europe whereas the each CD only covers one country. The DVD based system is faster and has more features but that is because it is a newer generation nav system rather than anything specifically to do with the media the map data is held on.

So I can't just buy this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-LEXUS-IS-200-250-300-NAVIGATION-COMPUTER-sat-nav-GPS-DVD-86841-53020-/221240101805?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3382f00bad , plug it in and it'll work?

shame :(

Thanks

Ive already thought to upgrade mine to DVD just because of cheaper updates DVDs available past 2007 and also the nice big screen. But its not worth it. What you could do is use the current housing and pop a tom tom in there or a cheap tablet interface from china and leave original loom and system dormant. To me it doesnt look like a hard mod especially if you keep it to the same screen size which is 5" i believe
