I had my last Lexus from new and in 4 years only went back to Lexus for a service.

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

A brand new RX450h with problems!

I certainly wouldn't just leave it.

Given the fact it is new and been back to Lexus a couple of times therefore giving them the chances to sort the problem out I would reject the vehicle as "Not fit for purpose" and either ask for a new replacement or your money back.

If they suggest you bring it back again for checking politely inform them they have already had the car and have failed on both occasions to correctly repair it.

Is it a case of the noise is intermittent or there all the time? Has the dealer technician actually sat in the car with you and heard the noise?

The longer you keep it the less chance you have of doing either.

Morning

Having read your reply I think I will give the manager a ring today, I have had the car since march and I feel I've never been away from Lexus the amount of times I have been back their. it started with having a tracker fitted and when fitted the device did not work so had to go back the following week to get another one fitted, then found out the cd player did not work so had to wait a week to get a new one to find out Lexus had sent the wrong one, had to wait another week to get another one to only to find out when fitted the computer had crashed and would not reboot and when I got it back discovered scratches on the glove compartment door and the front panel of the cd panel not including the 3 times it been back for the metal clanging noise. I must say the Lexus staff have been fantastic to resolve the issues but I am falling out of love with this car which is a shame because it should be a great car .Ok enough of a moan back to the issues scratches to glove compartment door buffed out scratches to opaque panel still their and can only be seen in certain sunlight the service manager said they will replace it if I cant live with it but it involves putting in another full cd system as the panel does not come separate as for the metal clanging noise it is intermittent and a mechanic sat in the car and he heard it but changing the rack has had no effect. It only used to happen when reversing or driving off at an angle but wife informed me last night it happened while driving straight ahead I have had the car for about 8 weeks with two of those weeks being in the Lexus garage so at this moment in time at a cross roads regards unhappy Lexus owner :megaangry:

I don't think an attitude from the dealer of "Try to live with your glovebox WE damaged" is the corect response for a brand new car.

With all the other problems you have now mentioned I think you have a water tight case under the Sales of Goods Act to reject the Lexus.

Have a search for information regarding your rights under this act or contact your local Citizens Advice Bereaux either of which will provide the correct way to approach the dealer.

I must admit you have the patience of a Saint but thinking forward if you've had all these problems within 2 months of ownership what could happen in the next few years?

Morning Ste thank you for the advice meeting with the manager tomorrow I will look up the sale of goods act today as for the patience of a saint don't ask my wife lol I sold our last Lexus without her knowledge and surprised her with the new one she was not happy she loved the old one so much. I will say the staff have been fantastic in trying to resolve these issues some like the tracker being faulty is not there fault , as for the metal clanging I don't think they even know what it is I will update you tomorrow on what happens thanks for the advice regards peter.

Good to know you had a previous Lexus, as you know this is not what Lexus ownership should be about. Have you checked brakes? mine clank at low speeds, but being 13 years old not so bothered!

and having a new is all about its perfections so i would not be happy interior has defects from dealer

Good luck and keep us updated :)

Hi Pete yes checked the brakes they are ok I have just spoken to the manager he is going to arrange for a Lexus specialist to come down and spend a couple of hours checking the car over. But like we agreed with the fault being intermittent it might not happen while he is there, so I will have to wait and see what happens and take it from there as for the car itself, looks and feels fantastic ride is great fuel consumption is excellent but it's just the little bits that you don't expect from a Lexus car which is letting it down my last Lexus which I had for 4 years never went back to Lexus accept for a service and two new tyres lol would be interesting to know if anyone else has had this problem. thanks for the advice speak soon bye

Hello all again

Just an update since my last letter I have had the car back about a week after the car being back at the dealers yet again for 4 days and having more new parts fitted (guess what it still clangs) . I have now had to book the car back in for another week of tests for the 23rd of this month so a specialist from Lexus can go to the dealership and work with the technicians to resolve this problem here's hoping. which means I now cant make the Lexus meet on the 23rd gutted , this will be the 4th time the car has been back in for this problem I will say the Lexus dealership and staff have been fantastic trying to solve this problem and admit to scratching there heads as they have never come across this problem before on a new car and they are hoping the man from Lexus might have some ideas or information from another dealer on their database from around the globe regarding this issue. I get the feeling everything is being pinned on the Lexus guy to solve the problem as all other options have been tried, i will keep you updated but my apologies for not being able to get to the meet regards peter

Well welcome back Lexus lovers to my saga

I got the car back off the dealers after having the Lexus uk trouble shooter have a look at it and even having more work done on it but to no avail, Its still making the clanging noise but now has got much worse , I have rang the dealer and Lexus Uk and told them the car is not fit for purpose and I want a new car like for like. Lexus uk have asked the dealer to perform a final test which is an echo test to pin down the noise exactly . Not holding my breath Lexus uk say they have to follow protocol before any decision can be made I will let you all know the outcome bye for now peter

Sorry to hear of your dilemma, Don't take offence but so far you have been too nice with them. If it were me in your situation i'd kick a stink up in the showroom, stating the faults in front of potential new customers.

Sounds like they are dragging the process out purposely, as if they swap you for another rx400 they are then stuck with a faulty rx with no chance of selling it.

As Steve said earlier take the case to citizens advice, they are brilliant as they have helped me before.

Morning dorcas

It only makes the clanging sound when we are reversing or going forward when doing a full right or left hand down manoeuvre the sound I can only describe as if you imagine a suspension spring pulled tight then released hitting the metal plate that noise when it does go off it now sends a bad vibration under the floor and its getting worse so I am now waiting for someone to let me know what is are next step will keep you all informed regards peter.

Hi Ian

I have rung both parties now and said I don't want the car Lexus uk have come back to say before any decision is made they have a protocol to follow that's why they are insisting on this echo test which they say should of been done earlier .As you said i have been to patient but my patience is all gone now I have fallen out of love with the car and don't want it .So I have given myself till Thursday and if I don't hear anything from either of them then they will get both barrels and other parties will be involved here's hoping it doesn't come to that but if it does I am well prepared and have more than enough evidence to prove the car is not fit for purpose regards peter.

Sorry to read this sad saga.

You have had the vehicle for more than 3 months and Lexus have had N attempts to satisfy you. The vehicle clearly is not what it was claimed to be when you purchased it and in my view the Lexus Dealer who sold it to you is in Breach of Contract. Their protocols are irrelevant and the advices offered by Steve 2006 and Ian S200 are sound and you should not allow them (Lexus Dealer) to procrastinate further.

Supposing that they fix the problem........will you ever have confidence in the vehicle? I doubt it.

Enough is enough and you have already been more than accommodating.

Good luck, a new replacement vehicle is what you want.

Regards

John

Hi john

You are right we have lost faith in the vehicle because no one can tell us what the problem is therefore no one can tell us if it is doing any damage . As you say Steve 2006 and Ian S200 are both correct and the only way forward is to replace the car which is the only option I will now accept as for the protocols that is Lexus Uk before they will discuss anything else with the dealer thank you for the best wishes will keep you all updated regards peter

Well today is the 4th and of 9.00am my car has gone back to the dealers for the umpteen time and for the final time I hope, for the echo test which Lexus Uk are adamant they want before going any further. I don't see the point myself as I am confident the test will shed no light on the saga and will still not solve the problem and as I have already told the dealer and Lexus I don't want the car now and it is not fit for purpose. So I will wait for the tests to finish and then its both barrels as I want a quick and speedy resolution and the only end result I will except is a new car. same car same colour same interior so if your reading this Lexus uk do the right thing four months of clanging and numerous times car left in dealers workshop for work to be done is not right its not what I expect of you , and if its not sorted then this will be my last Lexus. sorry guys Friday morning whinge is over now lol here's hoping peter.

Good luck Peter.

Just ensure that you put ALL of your concerns in writing to the Dealer Principal and copied to Lexus UK AND KEEP A COPY FOR YOURSELF. Send the concerns by registered post.

The main difficulty as I see it is if they hand it back to you and say "it`s fixed", then you have to accept that initially, even though you have lost confidence in the vehicle.

Then at the first sign that all is not well again the vehicle has to be returned to them for good and a new one made available to you.

I wish you well.

Regards

John

Thanks Peter. The Dealer Principal is the person who is responsible for everything that happens at the Dealership. Just ask one of the staff for his name, address, telephone no., email address etc. Then let him have both barrels in the form of the letter by Registered Post that I mentioned earlier.

John

Well I have had the car back since Monday the 14th and guess what silence :phone: not a squeak its a pleasure to drive once again without the knowledge of the clang coming. Falling back in love with it all over again the only down side is they replaced the drivers side top strut mount to solve this problem which they had already told me they had done previous so this makes me think because they could not replicate the noise they just said they done these things hoping we might not come back who knows but at this moment in time I am a happy Lexus driver again thank you for all your comments and advice regards peter.
