3Sge Blacktop Beams Feels Weak?...tuning Options?

Hi Everyone, as you can see I'm a new member, Signed up looking for advice as its all new to me!

I bought an Altezza RS200 last weekend, sorry if your a purist but.... I only bought it for the engine and box to fit to a mk2 escort, which as far as i know has never been done yet.

Im building the car for rallying and thought 210bhp would be a nice starting point.

However, the car on the way home was pretty gutless, my 07 Passat TDi kept up with it, although that car is 170ish bhp and not far off 400nm it shouldnt keep up with the Tez I dont think :(

So my questions are......

Why is the altezza so flat? Im not sure the VVTi is working, how do i test this? if it isnt working then how do i fix it?

Also when it comes to tuning, what are my options??? 240bhp as a minimum if im going tuning, 270ish would be nice but all down to the cost.

Ive heard the AE111 ITB's are an essential starting mod?

Anybody make good cams other than TRD(which apparently are near impossible to get) and Toda( that are very expensive and take ages to ship)

Any mods I should do? Any mods I shouldnt do?

Thanks in advance for your help with this, I'm well and truly in the dark with all this,... if it was a pinto I would be away!

have and ECU reading to make sure its not a sick engine then stick it on a dyno to see what it pushes out before deciding on mods.. for all I know the 3S-GE comes quite tuned out of the box since it was meant to be Toyota racing/drifting engine.. I mean 210bhp from a 2 litre 4 pot with no turbo charger aiding it is highly tuned in my books. depending on how well the engine has been looked after, would be worth doing the basic servicing like oil filter changes fluid changes and spark plug and diff changes aswell to bring it to life.. they do take turbos well if you can source the parts and fit or speak to these guys. for around £3500 you can drive in with 210bhp and drive out with 420bhp from your 3S-GE race engine.

These engines go quiet well when put into a lighter body. My RS200 moves along quickly enough, although theres a lot of weight for 210hp to move off the line quickly. You'll probably find the MAF sensor & throttle body need cleaning & the previous owner is was running 10w40 in it. The run so much better with a decent 5w30 like Motul 8100 or Mobil1 & a decent set of iridium plugs like Denso VK20 or NGK BKR6EIX11. Your average 40 weight oil in these engines puts to much drag on the VVTi system & 10w40 semi syn turns to sludge clogging up the solenoids. If you're going to be rallying it then you probably want to look at Motul 300V 5w40 as its a thin 40 weight but proper ester synthetic for race protection.

I'd have a chat to this guy, Celica RA45 >> http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclub/index.php?showtopic=11266 >> http://www.tezzaworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=5040 He makes ITB manifolds for the 3SGE & has made some decent power
