The GS went in for its MOT yesterday. Got a call late in the afternoon saying that it had failed on headlamp washer not functioning, and the exhaust blowing at both back boxes, plus emissions which wrere most likely related to the blowing exhaust. They quoted £690 for the exhaust, and they would need to investigate the washers.

As I want to get a custom exhaust for more V8 rumble, I couldn't justify that cost, so I picked the car up. Washers worked fine, so I assume they were just doing them wrong. Checked out the exhaust and patched the holes with some gungum paste and repair kits. Dropped the car back off this morning, picked her up with full ticket this evening. Not a bad result, went from a £700 plus bill to a £14.98 bill for some exhuast repair bits and bobs :)

Just goes to show what you can save by saying NO!

Having experienced the engine management light come on,

I dropped off the car at Lexus Belfast - fault was the oxygen sensor!

Replaced both sensors (on advice) at over £620.00

Apparently this was a reduced price as labour was charged at only 'toyota' rates!

Thank goodness I wasn't charged Lexus rates @ £100 per hour!

A great result! Does that mean head light washers are part of the test or have I misunderstood?

Washers and wipers have always been part of a M.O.T, in fact
if your pulled over by the police and your washer bottle is empty or your
washers don’t work you can be fined.

Apparently, if you have headlamp washers, they must work. I can only assume the tester to start with just forgot that the headlights had to be on for the washer button to do anything.

They certainly need to work if you have HID headlights which the GS430 has.
