Retro Fitted Cruise Control

+1 on DIY, having retro fitted CC on the Mondeo then seriously this is a walk in the park if you know how to hold a screwdriver!

Here we are, nearly 6 years down the line from my original post and the dealers still don't know about this simple modification and are willing to lie to customers about it. My guess is that most of them do know about it but Lexus do not officially support or acknowledge this type of modification and the dealers are just towing the official party line. Gives one a great insight into the workings of car marketing doesn't it?

That's quite true Wass, frustrating and disappointing. The only dealer that agreed to do it is the one u used for yours Wass, Lexus Hatfield. The rest of them are a bunch of 🤡🤡🤡🤡

It's a fact really that some people actually throw themselves into their job and go the extra mile and some are just punching the clock and waiting for payday. You seem to have come across the latter in your quest for something that needs a bit of thought and effort. Just because they are the appointed dealership for the car sadly does not make them the ultimate experts as you have found out. You have done some research and found out a few things about your car and I bet you view these dealership employees differently than you did a while ago!

Evening guys. I just wanted to give u an update on the cruise control. I successfully managed to fit it myself. It was such an easy job, it probably took me about 20 minutes to do it. I'm pretty chuffed with that as I managed to save over £250 by doing it myself. It was really a very easy job.

I now feel like calling back all the Lexus dealer that said to me it can't be done as it's not factory fitted and laugh in there faces and advise them to go do some more training on how to fix cars they are supposed to know everything about. 😁😁😁😋😋

Like someone else mentioned here it's very frustrating as this people should know these cars bumper to bumper. That proves they haven't got a clue about cars and these r the specialists we pay big money for when we take it to them.

if your quite handy you can fit cruise control yourself, I have just bought a stalk from eBay for £9.89 and fitted it in literally 10 minutes on my 2011 ct200 nothing else needed works a treat and you only have to remove your airbag.

thats the way i fitted it on our Auris a couple of years ago, didnt disconnect the Battery just

removed the airbag from the steering wheel leaving the wiring connected

I know it's a long shot, but would anyone here be able to do the Cruise control install on my 2011 Lexus CT200H? I'm willing to source all the parts required and drive the distance across the UK to get it done. I've just been quoted £280 parts and labour by Lexus Hatfield for the installation. If anyone can do the quick install for me, I'd happily pay them for their time.

Apparently it is according to the other knowledgeable members on here. If anyone can help do the install and provide a list of all the parts I'd be so grateful and I'll obviously be prepared to pay!

there is also a cover thats needed but not for the install of the CC it is just a finishing cover,

you can modify the cover installed in your car to fit around the switch by drilling a

large hole and glueing a piece of rubber to the back of the cover to stop dirt getting inside 

the steering wheel.

i live in ch49 on the wirral, i know its a good drive for you but the offer for fitting is there

for you if no one nearer can help you.

You're a legend mate, I'm grateful for all the information you've provided. After a serious thought with myself. I've decided I'm going to take the plunge and do the installation myself. I'm just worried about disturbing the airbag system when I try the install. 

That cruise control stalk link you've provided from ebay; is it OK long term with car? It's just I don't want to have the system malfunction with a non-oem part. I've heard of horror stories with systems failing in other car companies.

on our last auris hybrid a 63 plate i used a generic CC stalk and in the

30 months of it being installed before we sold the car it never faulted once.

1 ) when i fitted our CC i turned the steering wheel through 180 degrees

i done this so i didnt have to disconnect the airbag wiring and when it was released

i could lower the airbag down out of the way with the wiring attached.

( you could disconnect the negative off the Battery

wait 20 minutes then remove the airbag and disconnect the airbag wiring )

2) unclip the CC panel in the steering wheel.

3 ) from the inside of the steering wheel insert the CC stalk and secure with the 2 screws M5 i think.

4 ) route the cable and fit the plug into the socket

5 ) fit the CC cover panel if you have one

6 ) if removed .... refit airbag cables and press the airbag firmly back into the steering wheel

7 ) re-connect the Battery if disconnected

8 ) press the CC button on the end of the stalk and see the CC light illuminate on the dash

now go for your test drive.

Mate, just want to thank you for giving me tips on the cruise control retrofit. Happy to say I managed to install the cruise control switch today without any issues at all... no airbags were blown in my face thank god 🙂! Still find it senseless why Lexus didn't just fit this as standard after all it is a premium motor. Feel even better knowing I've saved myself a trip to Lexus Hatfield saving over £240 in parts and labour for such a basic task.

If anyone living in and around London needs someone to do this installation for them and isn't confident with doing it themselves then give me a shout... I'd be happy to help.
