Also do you guys have any pictures or instructions for someone who has not done this before? I couldn't justify myself to pay extra 100 quid if I could do it myself...but worried I'll do something wrong and mess it all up.

If somebody is looking to buy CC parts there is a steering wheel with CC on eBay for only 56 quid delivered - half the price of the parts from dealer.

Do I need to give them the part number or just ask for the cruise control parts?

Offer still valid, happy to help. I would go with part numbers, most of the time people at parts dept have no scooby-doo.

Even if you don't feel able to fit the parts yourself, it is quite often cheaper to ask the dealer to fit the parts than the other option: shop around for a car which already has cruise control and trade in for it.

£150 for the parts, tried Toyota, same price but can't get the cover. Lexus Stockport have quoted £202 which I thought was not bad, it's the other halfs a car and she wants to take the Lexus warranty so wants it fitted by a dealer.

150 for the parts seems a lot, prices must have gone up. I paid 122, but that was 10 months ago.

Yeah I thought that but everywhere quoted the same on the parts, Lexus Manchester did include complimentary safety check and wash, just an extortionate labour rate!

Ordered my Cruise control parts from Lexus Stockport, £124.99.....Peter (Pidu) kindly installed the CC for me....so it saved me a lot of time/money! so once again BIG THANK YOU to Peter for his time and effort! And it is awesome!

You are welcome Jon. I do not see the point of paying such high dealer rates for fitting CC or customizing settings. Glad I could help.

Hi everyone, new to the CT, our beloved Sportcross was reversed into and repairs deemed too expensive relative to value. Wanted to stick with the brand and CT fitted the bill nicely. We have a 2011 SE I and no cruise control, at least till i saw this post, Glasgow Lexus, great garage by the way, are retrofitting the item for £210.00 inc VAT. They're doing it next week so many thanks for making the info available.

Minor difference, not enough to cover the extra cost of the fuel.

I might have 1 or 2 sets of CC at the end of July, could fit and customize settings (reverse beep, remote opening and closing windows etc.) in Manchester area. If anybody would be interested pm me please.

Hi all,

I was thinking of doing it my self.

Just wondering if I could buy the non-genuine part (in particular) L84632-34011 Switch, A/Drive from eBay  which will cost ~£15 compared to over £100.

Alternatively, I could by the full steering wheel from a breakers which include the CC bits for ~£70, I think.

 

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Just out of interest, although its using OEM parts, does this not count as a modification and hence, declarable to the insurer?

Yes it does and it doesnt make a ha'peth of difference because the insurance cost for a model with or without the cruise control is the same, I'd guess. The cost of my insurance remained the same when I declared the ahem "modification" detailed accurately as "fitted a cruise control switch and bevel"

Right so does the car already have cruise control fitted but it's just a matter of sticking a switch in? 

I would have thought insurers would be very wary of cruise control retrofits

Yes it does have all the necessary  cruise control stuff already fitted..... all the CTs  do.... just the base model sei and some of the early SEL arrive without the switch.....didnt you know?

Lexus Croydon blankly refused to retro fit cruise on my CT, saying it simply can't be done.  I called Lexus Hatfield and spoke to Bruce who said....sure, no problem.  Takes us about 30mins and I have a list of the parts required here.

My 2001 Prius didn't have CC - I think that and sat nav were the only 2 options when it was new.  After a bit of research I sourced a replacement steering wheel directly from Toyota UK which had the switch attached and Toyota in Brighton (Yeomans from memory) replaced the steering wheel / connected the switch.  As I've forever regretted getting rid of that car and hope to some day procure myself another one (though finding ones that haven't been driven into the ground is now almost impossible), I bought another steering wheel from Toyota (this time in the US) a few years back - it's in the box in my garage still!

Had the same with Skoda years ago about retro fitting a upgrade Skoda head unit. They said no it can’t be done. I done it myself as it was a straight plug and play.

In this instance it would be a disadvantage, retrofitting CC isn't an official task and therefore if Toyota GB owned all the dealerships none of them would support you.

To be fair to the Liverpool dealership they may not be aware it can be done, it is extremely rare that a retrofit can be performed on a Lexus vehicle. Normally the wiring isn't in place, even if you think it would be cheaper to just have a standard loom for all vehicles they normally don't do that at the factory. I'm sure the dealership will just sell you the parts if you give them the list.

I have to disagree with you Colin,  I expect any Lexus dealership to know what can and what can't be done with a Lexus model which has been on the market for 6 years more or less unchanged. After all, we are told that full service histories by factory approved/ appointed experts are almost a must, dealerships know best, propaganda etc.  The fact that some dealers clearly don't know all about their 6 year old products is one more reason why dealers have to earn my trust, I don't take it as read that they actually know anything despite the stories about factory approved specialist training. Having training and actually understanding it is along the same lines as leading a horse to water but you cant make it drink.

They should know everything that is officially communicated to them, and that they have a repair procedure for.
