View From The Back Seat Of My Ls400

Recommended Posts

Let my Wife's Daughter(a very competent driver) drive back from a day out at NEC, sat in back for the first time ever, had two pleasant hours, staring at the workmanship and quality, of the leatherwork of my car, never appreciated it before today,-so comfortable sitting in the back also, I'm a big guy,and I had plenty of room, very enjoyable, -trouble is,now she wants my car...

When I bought mine the seller picked me up at the station (and my wife) we sat in the back for the few miles to his place and I was instantly struck by how comfortable it was. Also, as you say, the quality is superb. Toyota really did pull out all the stops with the seating, on the MK4 especially.

The first time I ever rode in an LS 400 was in that back seat. That was long ago in the early 1990s. At that time my job entailed a lot of long haul flights and sometimes I could not fly from Gatwick, my 'local' airport, and had no choice but to go to Heathrow. My employer would then send a chauffeur-driven luxury saloon car to my house to take me to far-away Heathrow. Usually these were Mercedes or Jaguars, but all of a sudden LS 400s started to appear instead. I had already heard about these fine cars by reputation. Several of the cars I rode in already had 500,000 miles on the odometer but their professional drivers were totally confident and always commented on the reliability of these cars. This explains why I was totally unconcerned when I bought my own LS 400 with 220,000 miles on the clock a little over a year ago. Hitherto my car had been well maintained by two pilots, one of them a former RAF officer, and this shows. Even today the car continues to drive beautifully and gives me a great deal of pleasure. My initial impressions from the back seat were not forgotten.

Today, for the first time ever, I had the surprise of being driven in the back seat of my own LS400 ... my car mechanic was driving the car to the MOT station for its re-test ( emission failure, welding the rusting Y section to sort it ....... £35 ) and I was approaching his garage when I saw him driving, he stopped, I jumped in the back and WOW, what an amazing experience .. I drooled over the pleasure that any rear seat passengers have from being in MY car ........... just thought, what a fabulous car and experience !!!!
