Heaviest Caravan You Have Towed With A Rx400H?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of getting one with a miro of 1560kg and a Max of 1800kg

I know the towbar limit of the RX400h is quite low at 80kg so if you've towed something heavy have you been able to balance the extras to get it down to 80kg.?

Thanks

Mike

The Caravan Club recommends a noseweight of 7% of MDW (Max design weight) of caravan. Some say 4% - 7% is fine.

80kg limit for the car is approx 4.5% of your proposed 1800kg MDW caravan. You takes your chance. Probably ok if its is a twin axle which seems likely at that weight.

Also need to be aware that a general recommendation is that the MDW of the caravan should not exceed 85% of the Kerbweight of the car.

RX400h Kerbweight is 2040Kg

85% figure therefore is 1734Kg

An experienced caravanner would probably be fine with the outfit you are looking at, but I would not recommend it to a novice.

Thanks Vadre. Yeah the noseweight problem is bothering me a bit ... will have to do a bit more research on that. But the V5C document came last week and it lists my car (executive limited edition ) as 2115kg mass in running order. So even if the caravan was loaded to the full 1800kg it would be 85%. But that's 240kg of payload so I don't think I would be up at that level.

Thanks for the info.
