98 Ls400 Indicator Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Suddenly the old girl's indicators/hazards have stopped working. All together.

Everything else electrical still works fine

I've checked both fuses (fine) and the rear bulbs (fine) (haven't checked front bulbs yet).

So I thought it's probably the indicator relay that's given up.

I call Lexus for a price/part no. and am told that they have nothing listed for a relay that just works indicators/hazards and it must be part of a bigger relay.

Any advice/ideas ?

Cheers

Hi KKPP

Cant help you with your problem but just to say there are several LS400's being broken at present on eBay so once you have identifield what the problem is I am sure you can source your part from one of them. Mike

Thanks for the responses

Cruisermark - no hazards as well as indicators, just suddenly disappeared

A good chunk of research later and it was the word "relay" that didn't work with lexus parts dept. It's called a "turn signal flasher"

Part No. 81980-500230 (& about 50 notes).

Checked on eBay but nothing near me (how depressing to see so many Mark 4s being broken, guess they're generally nearing the end of their economic life)

While I don't know if this is the problem I can't think of much else it could be as fuses ok

However finding where it lives will be the trick. I guess I'll buy one to see what it looks like and go searching in the drivers footwell in the fusebox area

Cheers

If it's not the flasher unit it can be the hazard warning switch as the indicator circuit is integrated into this and yes I may have one if you need it.

Thanks for the kind offer Steve.

Anyway I can report success. The 'flasher unit' is on the off-side (upper) of the fuse block in the diver's footwell (take off the lower bit of trim to see/get at it) and there seems no way it's coming off without removal of such block which appears a major operation - luckily there's space to plug the new one in next to it so that's what I did

and all working

Thanks to all for the responses.

Cheers, KP
