Hi I am just wondering does anyone else need to rev the lexus IS 200 high to get it going, when I drive my lexus IS 200 I seen to have to have to rev it quite hard to get it going

The reason I notice it because i had a 2.0 tdi golf as my last car and had it for 4 years so I was so used to that car

Do you mean when getting off the mark? I am assuming you have got a manual transmission?

If yes it's probably your foot adjusting to the petrol car. Manual Diesels are very easy to get rolling. Once in gear they have have a tendency to do what is known as 'creeping' in automatic cars.

As time goes by you should get used to the transition and find that sweet spot that gets the car rolling with minimum revs. If it's still the same say in 2-3 weeks time then there might be something wrong with it.

yeh its cus you have now gone back to driving a peaky engine instead of a torquey engine. I bet like most diesels your golf pulled hard at between a low 1500-2500 rpm with maybe 300NM of torque which made pulling from a stop or low revs less of a hassle whereas the IS would pull at its hardest or come alive at around 4000-6000rpm. So you wont feel that instant shove at the back around the low rpm range in the IS until its operating within its power band which comes in at the higher part of the rpm range.

Strange. I found the oposite from driving my diesel. My IS pulls well between 2000 and 3000rpm and rarely need to rev it much more. Although i have and the car sure does come to life 4500+ :p

Yeah I find all the power is at the top of the rev range. Sluggish below 3500rpm especially in 1st and 2nd. Some valve opens at 3800rpm apparently so you feel a sort of "lift" from about 4000rpm. It does annoy me how slow it is from a standstill sometimes. You can tweak your car to have that valve open all the time giving you the 'lift' right throughout the rev range so I've read. Not gonna be perusing that one myself tho
