Hi

If it is stuck out and won't wind in the mast nylon could have snapped you can buy a new mast and nylon winder on eBay sites for the Lexus ls400 and other lexus models with the same ariel.

The main fault usually on this ariel right back to the mark 1 is the worm drive that comes off the motor . This wears down so that the teeth of the mast nylon fail to engage and it is a non-replaceable component so the replacement £300 ariel unit is required for the sake of a 10p component.

On my mark one I fitted a aftermarket unit until a used ariel appeared on eBay a couple of years later.

Be careful what wires you cut whilst doing this as the relay that is clipped to the ariel on earlier models is nothing to do with the ariel, it is for the rear fog lights. There are plenty of used ariels complete on eBay usa .

hi

I would first remove the boot lining to and check the connections - on my mark 4 the previous owner had disconnected the aerial as it wasn't working - once you had a look you will also see the if need be buying an fitting a second hand replacement is fairly straight forward
