98 Lexus Ls400 Remote Programming - Not Much Luck

Recommended Posts

My mark 4 came with only one remote key - having purchased a second hand remote im trying to get it to work with my car - I have managed to programme it to start the engine but not having much luck getting the remote central locking to work

I have been following the instructions posted on this forum here:

http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/47560-ls400-key-programme/

can anybody on here offer any advice?

I certainly did not succeed even though I had the Lexus instructions and two keys to work with. When my remaining key gives up I guess I'll revisit the whole issue....

Maybe someone can offer me advice on this. My car only came with one key and I was planning to go to Lexus Guildford next week to get a spare. They said the key would be around £60 + £52 to programme it, all plus VAT. Does that sound about right or is there another way?

Thanks

Phil

Hi

phil if you have one master remote control key then you don't really have to spend that much - you can buy a second hand key and just programme it - just make sure you get the correct key - it should be a denso 12569 and the lock button should have a dot on it and the unlock button should have a triangle on it - there is 2 types of programming needed - one for the immobiliser and the second one for the remote central locking - both methods are here on LOC

I bought a second hand key for £25 - I bought a key blank from that popular auction site ( the one I got came with a gold lexus logo)

I then got the key cut locally and then finally programmed it - total cost £37.50

I know benfur is breaking his Mark 4 in few weeks time so he may be able to help

Thanks Mark, that's very interesting. Just so I understand this, you bought a second hand key, then a new blank and fitted the blank to the old part and had it cut, is that right? The one I have is a master key. So that means any old master key can be programmed to the car? (if it's the correct type of key)

Doesn't even have to be an old master key any of the same type can be used even a 2 button one.

So I buy a used key with buttons and then a blank? I see there are blanks from China on eBay, any good?

I bought two from the uk, The plastic is not the same as oem but iv'e had no problems with them. Then as you say you need a used key and re-programme it.

hi

yes im sure that's possible - I think the price you mentioned £60 is very good - when I was looking new ones were around £100 even from the US

As I mentioned before Benfur is going to break his Mark 4 soon if you want to get in contact with him

Thanks. I'm only going by what the guy at Lexus told me on the phone so it could all change! I've contacted Benfur but he may already have a buyer. There is one on eBay at the moment and I've asked the seller for a bit more info.
