Bonnet Catch Problems

My bonnet catch has been a bit sticky recently and now it doesn't let the bonnet shut propery.

I opened it, cleaned it and and put some lithium grease on it and it shut but the cable on the release handle has poped out and it appears roughly 3 inches longer than it should be (no tension in the cable).

I opened and closed the bonnet and the same story again. I can't drive the car above 30 mph for fear that the safe catch would give way and I would have a disaster. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Sounds like the cable has frayed and stuck inside sheath, replacement is the only option if it has.

I found one with lock at the breakers yard. Is it difficult to fit?

Should be quite easy, start inside car at handle end, unclip cable from handle and go from there. remember to take note of where cable runs before removal, and take it slowly step by step.
