Hello everyone. Just bought a lexus is 2001 model. It makes a squeeking sound every time i brake. Does that mean i have to change it and also the steering vibrates everytime the car goes over any uneven surface. My previous audi a3 i could not feel any tension on the steering. Can anyone please advise. Thanks

check for the dredded is200 sticking caliper. after driving touch both calipers. they should be stone cold, as for steering thought i had this on mine a few months back, but unsure if its normal or not tbh, theres a few posts about it

The squeeking sound might just be your brakes need greasing up. But as Petay says check the callipers these are prone to sticking.

As for the steering, mine was lumpy and well just horrible to drive so all I did was tighten the power steering belt and change the power steering fluid and now the steering is perfect.

Hope this helps :)

Just some comments in addition to what Chris and Pete have said:

High-pitched brake squeal I'm guessing? Happens sometimes even with new pads and disks, as was the case with my car. I took it back to the garage, they took it apart, cleaned it and regreased it, and it has disappeared since.

I guess you mean the steering is "tramlining" over uneven surface? I found this to be more pronounced with the default Lexus geometry setup for the IS200. After changing it over to WIM's geometry settings, it has lessened somewhat. You will definitely notice this especially after coming from an Audi, seeing that most Audis have very little (or even negative) "scrub radius" in their front suspension design.

Do a search on this forum for "Wheels in Motion" or "WIM", and I would suggest having your geometry looked at by them.

Of course, if I have guessed your problems wrongly, please ignore! :)
