Just discovered a slow puncture on my front off side tyre, great! Happy New Year.

Anyway both fronts are down to 3-4mm anyway so I will change them both as I don't like doing single tyres. The question is what do I go for, should I go for Continental Sport 3's as fitted or another brand? I notice that newtyres are now noise rated and ideally I would choose something quieter to suit the cars composure, my other priorities are mileage and safety. Any ideas out there.

I'm running Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrical 2's at the moment and think they are the quietest tyres I have tried to date and thus far seem to be wearing well.

I shall be using these again next time I require tyres.

The Goodyears have a lower noise rating than my Continentals and much lower than Bridgstones but the Dunlop SP 01's seem to have the lowest noise levels, has anyone tried them?

I'm pretty sure the noise rating is for the amount of noise emitted outside of the car, so it's completely useless.

Yes, but surely the more noise emitted outside will lead to more road noise being heard inside.

If the tyre is quieter thus noise heard inside the car is reduced. I thought a wheel bearing had gone when I fitted cheap tyres once so they can make a huge difference.

Are you thinking of just changing the 2 front tyres? With the 250 being rear wheel drive you should never 'mix and max' tyre makes. Need to be same on all corners or steering and safety could be seriously compromised.

Surely grip and wet weather performance are much more important than noise levels. One tyre being 2 or 3 db louder than another should not be a factor at all. Saferty first???? For the record, I put 4 Michelin Primacy tyres on my IS220 and it completely transformed the handling compared to the cheap rubbish Lexus Cardiff put on the car.

Nonsense, providing you fit the correct size, load and speed ratings then the road holding will be fine. If it was dangerous then it would be an MOT fail.
