I'm looking at fitting hids to my is200 what's the best kit to buy and how easy are they to fit and do the headlight washers need to work if I do fit them as been told if u have hids u need the washers to work for mot also do I do high beam and low beam or just low or is there a kit that does both I would really like a set of angel lights but I can't seem to find any where that sells them as whole units just the attachable crap rings and is there any way of getting better acceleration engine tuning or turbo fit

As above was going to suggest hids4u. Havent got any on my car but i think generally people do the dipped beam then just get some whiter halogen bulbs for main beam etc. Either that or use a cheap hid kit for the mains seeing as the hids4u ones are more expensive. Maybe u shud ask a garage about hid's on ur car, even hids4u said the rules are unclear when i asked them about it.

As for angel eyes ur only really gunna find the attachable ones. People on here that have angel eyes have the attachable ones, at some point i think i will prob do this.

Engine wise if u want more power its either a supercharger (usually TTE which are second hand and rare) at about 2k or turbo charging at about 5k plus. Unless u wanted to go down the engine swap route?

Please make sure you get Reflector type bulbs for your kit i.e 9006R. HID's in high beams are useless since they have a warm up time once they are ignited. Stick to halogens for your highs.

Yes very easy mate, just plug n play. I have a kit from hids4u and cant fault it. You could just put original bulbs back in for mot if your bothered.

Now I've been told that theese hids get hot is this true and does it effect the plastic unit I'm only thinking of getting them as my low beam is really dull is this a sign of needing new bulbs or is it normal

Quality varies like everything else you buy, a bit like a Bose system and an Alba/Bush/Goodmans system.

Chances are the ones on Fleabay will be Far Eastern manufactured with no warranty and probably poor reliabilty so pay a little more for a decent kit with a UK warranty and a person at the end of the phone if you need them.

The last thing you want is to be doing the job again in 3 months when your bargain Fleabay units pack up.

4-6K are in the white part of the colour spectrum and 8K are heading towards blue/purple. 4-6K are brighter than 8K.

As far as I know you need projector lamps if you have projector headlight units and reflector if you have conventional headlights, bear in mind the beam splatter and the headlights may need adjusting for an MOT pass.

If you don't have self levelling headlights you suspension needs to be firm so the light beam doesn't bounce.

Regarding the heat produced by HID bulbs, conventional bulbs are normally 55w and HID 35w so in theory run cooler so shouldn't present a problem with the plastic headlight units.

As far as I know you cannot delete old posts only mods can do this.

Also just been out and checked my headlights already have reflectors fitted in them so does that mean I just get the projector 9006 kit

You need the 9006r (reflector) kit. Its already been mentioned a couple of times in the above comments.

I don't think hids4u have any in stock but if they did you could use the discount code 'toyota pro' to bring the price down. In terms of Kelvin try to keep it as low as possible for maximum light. 5000k is usually the minimum aftermarket bulbs go down too.

Aftermarket bulbs go down to 3000k, most common being 4300, 5000 and 6000 (some places you can find 4500k). I put 5000's in mine, and they were way too blue. Asked a HID specialist who said they look more like 8000k, so changed for a set of his 5000's, which are much more white, but still not pure white. More reading up suggests you will always get a slight blue tint with 35w, and if you want pure white you want 5000k 55w.

I may change mine to 4300k at some point

After market bulbs can never match the lumens output of a Philips or Osram bulb so the reputable companies out there don't even try and instead target a market which Philips and Osram don't cater for which is higher up the K range. If you wan't 4300K go for one of the OEM bulbs and you won't regret it.

But yh you can get cheap chinese bulbs for nearly any Kelvin rating.

was £97 now £74 which is very close to the heaps of s**t they are selling on eBay .

cant wait to get them will report back on fitting and overall look etc

but reccon should be safe ordering from these guys + worth the extra for peace of mind :D

Those HID4U kits are deff the bees nees and control the light in a none HID reflector very well. However to charge more than triple the price for the same technology except for a bit of plastic on the bulb which creates this effect is absurd. The only reason you cant get them cheaper is because they've patent'd the design the jammy bastards

anyway Gary put up some pics when you get chance, dont think ive seen these fitted on the IS before and let us know how good the balast is i.e how long to warm up.... a good kit should be almost instant like OEM

Actually ordered a 6000k set of eBay @£55 including delivery but after a 16 day of watching the letter box each morning decided to bite the bullet cancell that order and go for the quality ones after a little research ,

These are the cheepy ones the seller said they would take a hour to fit WTF ?

that was the final nail in the coffin for me , haha :0)

I'd also be interested in hearing about the quality of the ballasts in those hids4u kits.

I've already got HIDs in all my front lights as I recently put cheap kits in the main beam (4300k) and fogs (3000k).

The improvement over halogen bulbs is massive but the aftermarket lights take an absolute age to get up to temperature compared to the OEM Denso ballasts. It must be around 15-20 seconds. For the fog lights that's not a problem, since, once they're on, they stay on, but I'd really like to improve the situation in my main beam if I can.
