Dvd On Nav Screen

Manage to get hold of an adaptor from a company called NAV TV based here in the UK, Cardiff to get a DVD picture on the OEM NAV screen, works with all Lexus models with Navigator.. Did find the adaptor only accepts NTSC signals though, but worked fine with my DVD player, a PAL version of the box is still in development . Thinking someone on LOC may organise a group purchase for those interested, and let me know... as i might be able to get a better price on it.... B)

Its a black box size of 2 packs of playing cards together, it converts a standard NTSC video signal ( phono ) into RGB, which the standard Lexus screen accepts, you can do the wiring both at the back, Navi box or at the front screen. Theres 2 looms containing your Red,Green,Blue,Sync cables which wire into the existing RGB Navi/monitor loom just cut, and they are marked up screen and navi then a power and GND connection via a switch, when this gets power it interupts Navi display and displays your phono input. The cost so far is approx £225 + Vat and i'm sure as a Lexus dealer you can probaly source at this price from NAV TV. Hope this helps Chris.

Just finishing off my own. It will accept either Pal or NTSC (different crystal req. for NTSC). As it is Pal, it will take the cheapo cameras available for reversing, also the Playstation, etc.

Should be complete tomorrow, then I can give it a full test.

Sorry about the over exposure on the piccy, the batteries have just gone in my digcam so need to recharge before I can take another.

Don't know if I'll market it, or just sell the plans off yet.

It will cost a lot less than £225. (I'm not crying down the converter you've found here at all Steve - don't mean to offend and sound like a smart **se)

Be nice if we could get a camera on the back of the IS like the new RX, make reversing a whole lot more user friendly (for thos of us w-out sensors)

Where are you going to mount the camera?

I have looked into this on my GS. I have a NTSC camera and purchased a composite to RGB converter. Works fine on the screen. I have also designed a timer circuit so that there is a 0.3 second delay in switching the signal so that when I go from park into drive it doesn't try and change the signal as the gearlever passes through reverse (not a problem for manual gearboxes).

However I don't know where to mount the camera. If I use the boot lock then I will only not see any of the rear bumper. If I mount it where the number plate lights are, facing downwards, I can see the middle of the bumper but not all of it and I don't know if at night the light from the number plate lights will affect the image. Any ideas?

On the RX there is a small casing, triangular in shape that the camera is in.

It just looks like a small wedge if you can imagine that. Doesn't look out of place at all.

Right - it's in the car and working, except for a few scan lines at the top.

Just do the adjustments and that should be it!

Isnt the RX's mounted just about where the No plate lights are?

I remember seeing it on the open road event, and looked like a fish eye lens.
