Is200 Boot Lid Springs?

The boot lid on my car doesn't feel like it has any springs and feels very flimsy.

It stays open but if its past 90° it'll just shut. If I open it quickly the lid bounces at the top and shuts again.

Hope this make sense....

Any ideas?

They do not use springs/dampers as in the conventional manner they are torsion bars which run across the boot under the rear window area.

They have been known to come adrift and need refitting into their brackets but are also a known weak design, there are stronger ones available apparently.

Just spotted them. They are the same as I had on a Rover years back.

Ill have a look if I can find out on how to adjust them.

Mine did come with a spoiler. I'll have a go today and report back.

The springs/ bars cant be adjusted, but you can help them by placing a 5mm bolt in the groove where they sit to help with the opening on the remote boot pop!

Had a good look today and couldn't figure out the adjustment.

Ill cut some 5mm rods and sort it out tomorrow.

Arm yourself with a torch, MEATY screwdriver or pry-bar and your 2 cut rods.

Lean backwards into the boot and lie in the boot looking upwards, you will find the place where the rods/springs are housed at either side of the hing mech (see pic)

Using the pry-bar or screwdriver lever out the bar/spring and place your cut rod in the gap, then release the spring/bar.

I have a similar problem, the brackets that bolt to the underside of the parcel shelf aren't that strong. If you look at Jomo's photos you'll see that the bracket has a crack just above his wrench. that's how mine was until last Friday when it broke completely and as the boot lid is heavy it wont stay up. I've ordered two replacement brackets from scrapyard, and Steve posted a diagram of how to get the rear seat out. I'll let you know how I get on.

The brackets are bolt-in iirc so should be straight forward.

Try it without the bolt mod first as it might be OK with just the new brackets.

someone said use some 5mm round bar, and showed pictures how to do it.

worked great.

you can also use a very fine artists paint brush and put a little oil on the links/pivots so thay work smoothly.

probably better than new.
