Problem with near side front door not locking using remote. Does not lock using key in driver's side door.

Lexus Wolverhampton require car for day to "look into it". Local car workshop stated might be loose wire. If not replacement motor (quoted circa £200).

Price rather a lot for the inconvenience of having to lock from passenger side. Appreciate any advice please.

Old and poor (he whined...) :shutit:

Unless someone as been there before there is no such thing as a loose wire on a Lexus LS400. The motor is probably sticking through age and little use .Access to it requires removing the doorcard and the insulation behind ,It is a job you could do but download a manual onto your computer from the web thy cost about £10 .With the help of the diagramatic detail of the door construction you will be able to locate the screws and fastenings that release the card without doing any damage.

The motor is located immediatly behind the door catch and operates the lock and lock switch through a lever system.

If it is the motor you can get one off eBay for a lot less than £200.

The exact same thing happened on mine some years ago and it was the motor inside the door lock.

I got hold of a complete lock from a later model and swopped out the motor but it would be easier to obtain the exact same lock and replace it as a complete unit if you are not mechanically minded or any good at soldering.

I got mine from LOC member Benfur but not sure if he has any parts remaining but failing that there are normally some LS400s being broken on that well known internet auction site.

I have some pictures of the job when I did mine if you want to see them and there is a tutorial for removing the inner door panel at www.lexls.com.
