I was lead to believe that the head unit on the 97 to 2001 were Nakamichi, but when i removed mine it is a pioneer unit , confused. The nobs are the round smooth type, it doesnt asl , nakamichi again but pioneer on the bottom of unit?

I have never heard what the Mark Levinson and other high end car audios are like but the standard one I have in my Mk4 LS is magic. I have had some expensive after market system fitted in previous cars over the years but none of them are even on the same planet as this.

I listen mainly to Jazz & Blues and that warm bass sound you get and the overall tonal qualities from these systems is 5 star brilliant.

I totaly agree great sound , the radio can be a bit flat , but now i am just picking

I got a Pure Highway installed between the ashtray and the end of the gearbox surround, tight but its ok there and just fixed in place with Blue Tack. You get great radio and without any noise. You can lose the signal every now and then if you go way out of your normal driving area but you just ask it to scan to pick up another station signal.

I thought that the CD was Pioneer and the tape deck was Nakamichi. Am I wrong?

My 2000 Mk IV sounds fantastic. It has the round knobs, also the ASL (auto sound levelizer p86 of the Nav Handbook) button on the touch screen.

Great comparison review here:

Thanks for that info if you look at it when it comes to ths lexus nakamichi is worded, that is clear but cant seem to find it on sat nav units, would like to see how much better it is against a very good pioneer. My wife says i am a pain want the best, spent 6000 on a pioneer kuro 60 inch tv. And thats for starters.
