I would get the Battery checked out first to see if any cells are suspect and if not, well, then the choice is yours and you will know that you won't have a definite need right now.

But a cold winter brrrr ..... who knows !

My recent experience of batteries (two different cars, including the Lexus) is that they've packed up suddenly, without warning. I didn't have any idea that they were on the way out. So getting yours checked is a good idea, I'd say.

Yup I would go along with that.

Just remember that if you have it checked and everything appears OK one really hard frost could kill the Battery.

Its a shame you cant identify the Battery on there because at least you could tell if it was a quality one or not.

In my own Mk4 LS 400 it suddenly died one very cold morning a year ago I had it replaced by Lexus Reading for about £70 incl fitting, coffee, morning newspapers and a very pretty receptionist to look after me. Must have been my Adonis like looks and charm.

Replaced mine twice in 6 years of ownership, both the others suddenly gave up.

I bought a Toyota replacement this time as it was the cheapest place but they couldn't fit it for me. "That's fine" I said 'I'll fit it myself and by the way you can cancel that order I placed for a new LS600h" :D

One thing I did noticed was when 1st fitted the Battery was so powerful it nearly threw the engine out the car but after a few weeks it returned to a more normal cranking speed, do they all do this?

Yes I know what you mean as mine did the same but as you say it soon settled down.

I forgot to put that when my Battery was changed the old one was the original Battery the car was 1st sold with which made it 13 years old. No moans there then.

When I bought the car it was 12 years old and on it's original, it did however fail about a year later when winter arrived, must have been in shock after living in a kinder Japanese environment all that time and the 1st British winter finished it.

I suppose being stuck on a ship for months didn't exactly help matters.
