Audio Adapter - Cant Find One That Fits !

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, trying to fit a kenwood sterio to my 2003 is200 sport, but i can't find an audio adapter that will fit the car! I have a photo of the Lexus plug "end" but it won't let me upload it on the iPad. How many different audio connections are there?

Cheers!!

Dan.

The plug at the back of your stereo isn't really an issue. Your system has a seperate amplifier system which is housed behind the glovebox on the lower A post area. When you buy a fitting kit the lead you buy runs from the connectors near the amp and to your stereo so the leads are quite long. You therefore disconnect the speakers and power from your amp, plug them into your new lead and thread it through to your stereo I believe. This gives your new stereo a direct connection to the speakers and power that way.

There's plenty of information on it on this forum, have a quick search and all will be revealed!

That doesn't make sense. The IS has an 8 speaker system, and nearly all aftermarket headunits only have a 4 channel on board amp. The stock Lexus amp also has the crossovers built in for separating high and low frequency signals.

The only two ways I can see to do it, is to 1) use an amp bypass cable to eliminate the Lexus amp, run RCAs from the aftermarket HU pre-outs to a pair of 4 channel amps, and cross over units (either onboard on the amp or separate), and power the speakers from them, or 2) you need a harness cable to plug the Lex amp into the aftermarket HU, allowing the stock Lex amp to provide the power and crossover functions - much like an ISO cable you'd get from autoleads etc.

You'd struggle to use the lexus amp with an aftermarket stereo as there would be no way to alter the volume output from the amp. The amp volume control is controlled over the AVC-LAN which the aftermarket stereo won't have.

Normally you'd buy an adapter lead that will bypass the amp completely and give a direct connection to the speakers from the stereo.

The amp has a 6 channel output, 2 for the front (as they have their own crossover) and 4 for the rear. The adapter lead sorts the rear channels by connecting them, the front isn't a problem is it would be a direct connection.
