Hi ALL,

New to LOC hope you can help? I have recently purchased a Lexus IS 220D SE-L (a really nice motor)

2nd hand off a dealer 56 reg 2 weeks ago (mirrors not covered in warranty)

However I noticed on Sunday during the weekend heat wave that there is an issue with the door mirrors

it seems that the problem maybe with the automated tint on the door mirrors one mirror has a ring of what looks like ink around the middle (drivers side) and the other door mirror tint is starting to fade (bottom right passenger side)

I have attached some pics

My question would be has anyone come across this before and knows what the issue is?

and could it be a case of buying any ordinary mirror off eBay to replace where I have called Lexus whom have said a glass mirror alone would be £250 + vat?

I'm sure someone on there had a similar problem with one of their mirrors recently, but Lexus changed it under warrenty. I take it you didn't buy the car from Lexus?

I had a 1999 GS300 with the same problem on one mirror.

I think it is down to discolouration of the silvering, possibly caused by the heating elements over a period of time.

Replacement is the only option to sort the problem but ridiculous at £250.00.

There are aftermarket ones but not sure if they would be heated and the same optical quality as OEM.

You would be lucky to get just the glass from a breaker as they normally want to sell the whole mirror.

Thanks both for your response, nope this was not bought from Lexus

as I am aware there was tinting of blue on the mirrors however one has now turned silver with a ring of ink and the other has started to discolour

I will give the breakers ago on the weekend before taking this to Lexus
