Starter Motor

Lexus LS400 4.0ltr V8.

Starter motor does not switch off even when the ignition is switched off, i have to take negative off Battery for it to stop.

Any ideas as to how this could be happening. To start with when the car was started it would make a loud scraping noise coming from around the starter motor which continued while the engine was running or driving. And after i started it a few times the car would not turn off even when the keys were removed from the ignition.

Sounds like starter solenoid stuck on,....usually it's the opposite fault, i.e not

contacting

Contact kits available, easy to fit but a mass of dismantling to get to the motor.

Be careful.

A starter motor that sticks on can catch fire, I remember an episode of The Garage, where a BMW did exactly that with expensive consequences.
