On The Subject Of Alarms ...............

Recommended Posts

Hi, does anybody know a simple solution please.

My MK3 alarm has a habit of going off sometimes for no apparent reason.

I have the usual 3 button and red panic button on my keyfob.

My car Battery is new too. And I have removed metallic objects from the door pockets etc .

I don't want to remove the appropriate fuse because that also powers up the steering wheel rake and remote boot release and also the central locking.

Is there a simple solution just to turn off the alarm sound ?

Thanks.

Malc

I have the usual 3 button and red panic button on my keyfob.

The fob descriptions seem unclear, the manual I quoted from & described the 2 button fob is off my '95 which was registered in Aug 95 when exactly it was made is unknown, there may have been a later fob for what we know as the 1995. I had 2 1997s' & they had 3 buttons, one opened the boot.

Is there a simple solution just to turn off the alarm sound ?

LOL...Well again going from the manual I quoted, theres 7 pages in total relating to the 'Theft Deterent System' , it seems to someone like me, non mechanical minded, far to complicated to go into. To me, it was like starting all over gain trying to understand the car.

I've just rooted out both 1997 fobs (2 different cars). They are also oblong but with with rounded edges as opposed to the square edges of the '95 fob.

The '97 fobs have 3 buttons at front, lock-unlock & boot, at the back they have red panic buttom, so 4 buttons in total not 3 as I thought.

I have read the manual, Theft Deterrent section and quite honestly it's gobbledegook to me, a layman !

Does anyone have any thoughts here to tell me, quite simply, how to turn off the alarm sound but retain the whole remaining function engaged by that fuse ?

Thanks.

check the condition of your courtesay switches on your doors. If they are intermittantly going open circuit they will activate your alarm!
