Hello all,

First post on this fantastic forum.

I've just bought an 07 is250 (auto) and am wandering if somebody can shed some light on this issue I've been having. Whenever I start the car from cold the engine revs in at 1500rpm. Putting the car into D or R brings down the rpm to normal but there is a slight jerk as the car moves down from 1500 to 700-800.

Since Lexus is know for its refinement I am just wandering if this kind of behaviour is normal at cold starts?

Thanks

Hi Exdee and welcome to the LOC.

This is quie normal, to get the engine warmed up. As it gets warmer the revs (when in P or N) will get lower until the engine is running at normal temperature and will 'tick over' at about 700rpm.

Cold start is 1500 then drops to 1200 then 750 when you engage R ----both my Auto SELs did jerk slightly,my ISF does not.

This is normal and nothing to worry about, my previous Volvo S60 2.5T also did this.

Exdee, a bit late I know.

I remember when I took delivery of my IS250 F-Sport this time last year.

The dealer could see the look of concern on my face when he started it up from cold.

He said it was normal.

I believed him.

It still does it, 7k on.

Settles down quickly.

For further reassurance.

You should hear a neighbour's Focus RS500 when it starts up from cold.

Sounds like 2000rpm!

It purrs like a kitten when it's warmed up.

Hope that helps. Argento
