Egr Valve Removal And Cleaning

Got a 56 reg Lexus IS220d I'm having a few problems,

1. Fuel economy is poor less than 40mpg and most of my miles are on motorways

2. Occasional chugging sensation which is intermitant on the motorway at speed mainly when accelerator is released

Have tried putting bg244 in the tank which is supposedly recomended to help clean carbon build up, results are mixed but occasiona puffs of smoke from exhaust are really unsettling.

After reading some forum posts it seems EGR valve could be a problem, does anyone have any experience of removing and cleaning it, would be greatful for any information

In advance

Many Thanks

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

There have been a lot of problems with the EGR on the 220d failing and a lot of other problems besides.

There are no tutorials as far as I know for removal and cleaning and the results of cleaning are not always sucessful even when done by Lexus dealerships.
