Hi - I am hoping to get back in the saddle of an LS400 next month after the demise of my previous MK3. Would there be any appreciable difference in MPG between the earlier models with the lower BHP and the later higher BHP ones?. On day to day running I suppose the old MK3 did around 23/24 mpg,but on a long run managed 30/31 mpg which I think is wonderful for a 4 litre V8. Can't wait 'til February to start looking again. I said I'd be back!!.

Later model should have about 2mpg better results than old model, since it has 5-speed gearbox.

My year 1998 version gets results: in the long run 32-35mpg, mixed about 18-19mpg, short trips 15mpg or less.

Welcome back to the fold ............ my earlier Mk1 and Mk2 models gave me about 50 miles per tank less overall consumption than my " new " Mk3

Dunno if it's my better driving or if the MK3 engine just has the edge economywise slightly.

Ah, it could be that I have been driving the LS400 for such a long time now .............. over 9 years, and when fuel was less expensive, that my driving just might have adjusted to be more gracious and genteel to save on fuel in these harder economic times.

No idea with the MK4 ... I'll save that until the MK3 passes on to the other side !
