How old is the car ? I experienced exactly the same problem last year with my 220D. I put it in for a service and they magically solved the problem. It was not until 300 - 400 miles later when it stopped working again did I investigate myself. The radiator reservoir was seriously low on coolant. The cause - a blown cylinder head and a HUGE repair bill (eventually picked up by the extended warrantee). Lets hope your problem is something a little less catastrophic.

Good luck, Tony
