Reverse Light Wiring With Regards To Reverse Camera

hey guys,

I am trying to install a reverse camera to my '51 plate is200 sport, with a pioneer avh3200bt head unit. I have semi located the wire in the passengers footwell as per other topics and i have searched the hell out of it but i cant find an answer why when i stick a multimeter across the plug in question in reverse and neutral, i get no continuity with the gear in reverse and continuity in neutral?, shouldnt it be the other way round?, surely with no signal to the h/u it would be normal and with a signal it would display reverse?. im starting to think about running the cable from the reverse lights because its really confusing me now i would really appreciate some light on the subject.

Thanks!

There is no technical reason not to run the reversing camera from the reversing lights or any disadvantage in doing so - the camera draws negligible current. Also the reversing lights are conveniently already at the back of the car and easily accessible. Suggest for added protection you add an in-line fuse to the power take-off for the camera.

i think i will run the camera from the rear lights that seems the best option but i'd rather run the headunit from the front if i can saves me running an extra wire! il give it another go. cheers

Fair enough. The wiring diagram on the site below might help.

i've just completed my installation of a reverse camera.

i found it easier to just run a wire to the rear and connect the wire to the reverse lights there. if it helps and if my memory serves me correctly, the wire for the reverse lights is the red/black (passenger side), but do check to make sure.

regards
