Will petrol ever become redundant?

Will petrol ever become redundant? Will they ever actually find a way to replace it? We can ship a man to the moon but cannot find proper alternative fuels! what do you think?

We currently have a number of alternatives its just that the distribution infrastructure is not there to support it yet! its a negative feedback loop. suppliers will not create infrastructure because there is no demand and likewise there is not enough infrastructure to justify full scale production of alternative fuel cars! hopefully soon someone,… most likely Toyota, will take the plunge.

Also petrol looks to becoming more important. How many Diesel hybrids are there?
