Sony Xnv-L77Bt Sat Nav Head Unit And In Phase Monitors

Recommended Posts

I got a Sony XNV-L77BT head unit installed last weekend at the Car Audio Centre in Tooting. It uses the latest generation TomTom sat nav and is able to drive rear headrest monitors from its own DVD or an aux video input whilst navigating.

I got a TV tuner added and a couple of rear headrest monitors from In Phase.

The install took about 4 hours and the fit & finish is very good. The TV tuner is OK, but tends to pick up mobile phone interference. Sat nav and DVD playback are both very good.

Cheers

No wires cut as far as I know - they used an amp bypass cable and and ISO adapter so that (in theory) I'll be able to swap the original equipment back in when I end up selling the car.

The head unit was about £1k, the TV tuner about £300 and monitors £200 with some sundries on top (fascia; bypass cable etc) and 4.5 hrs labour.

Did my own double DIN unit today - dead proud as it's the most electrical work I ever had to do. Took me a couple hours, but it's in and all working :)

I now have a JVC KW AVX-810 headunit and it's pretty cool...

Basically you get one of the cables off the amp (leave the other attached) and connect it to the bypass lead then the bypass lead connects to your new stereo's standard connectors. If I was putting in rear monitors and the like though I would have paid someone to do it too...

I'll post a pic of how it looks in the morning, too dark now.

So does it matter that all my wires that used to go into the back of the old headunit are cut? Will my new unit work just from the amp to the back of the unit using the bypass cable?
