Rear Disc Replacement And Front Wheel Bearing

Recommended Posts

my 97 mk 1 just sailed through the MOT apart from a warped disc, i have managed to find replacement disc

how difficult is it to replace, is it similar to replacing a front one, which i did recently, is there anything i need to watchout for, or is completely different

i was also informed that there was a slight wobble in the wheel bearing and they would probably need doing at sometime, how difficult is it to replace front wheel bearing and do i need to replace the 2 front ones at same time, also would it be advisable to replace all 4

thanks

Just the problem bearing needs to be done. Although I am surprised if they felt a "wobble", that it didnt fail already.

The rear discs are similar to the fronts but the handbrake drum is part of the rear disc. With luck, the disc will just come off. If not, you will need to back off then self adjuster. This is done through the hole in the disc centre when the hole is in the 6 o'clock position. A screwdriver through the hole is used the rotate the adjuster.

Not an easy job, with plenty of potential hidden problems. When I had to have mine done, the handbrake cable and abs sensor ended up having to be done, at about £800 altogether in the end. No idea as far as a DIY job goes, presses are needed ( hydraulic most likely) to press the bearings in/out.
