Battery/alternator

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help? Lexus IS200 03 plate.

Car was struggling to start, but despite nearly going dead, the car would start.

Checked the Battery indicator and its blue showing its ok, but noticed the voltage was around 9-11v.

Now the car is just clicking, unsure if this is from the alternator. Would anyone advise a new Battery? would it start clicking if the Battery is on its way out?

Dont want to spend too much on the car because i am due to sell it around march 2011.

Thanks Sean

I am assuming that the clicking is when you turn the key, it just clicks instead of starting. This would be because the Battery hasn't got the guts to turn the engine over.

Get the Battery charged, and then take it into a local Motorist Discount Centre, or similar, they can do a load test on it to see if it's holding a charge.

Also, when the car is running, put a multimetre on the Battery terminals and you should see about 14.4v. Having said that, they can test this when they do the above.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks

Mike

My Battery lasted 8 years which I was really impressed with. Just shows the quality that was put into the IS200. A lot of other manufacturers just want to see it survive the warranty period. If your new Battery is topupable, check the water levels. I bought a new one which hadn't been filled properly.
