Exhaust And Mot

Hi all.

car is an is200se 2000 x-reg and is a standard lexus.

Car is due for an mot next week. Not been driven for most of the summer as i mainly use a scooter.

Have noticed that the exhaust is blowing slightly. When i looked underneath it appears to be on the rear section of pipe before the back box. right next to where the pipe appears to connect to the mid section. ( sorry if this is very vague )

Will this cause it to fail its mot, and also being of non-mechanical mind. can i just buy the rear pipe section separately and change this part or does it come as a complete rear section.

Cheers

Kev

Hi,

There is a good chance it will fail on this either because the emissions will be affected or because the exhaust system is badly corroded although I thought the system was stainless steel.

If it is near the joint are you sure the gasket between the two bolt up sections has not failed?

If it is the rear section it can be bought separately.

Cheers.

Thought that may be the case.

When i looked today it was the blowing right next to where the rear section appears to be connected. will have to have a closer look tomorrow to see if it is the exhaust pipe or the gasket as you say.

very true abt the stainless steel, but it is well and truly corroded. must admit tho, had the car for 7yrs and this is the first exhaust problem. It may weel be the original exhaust on it.

been looking around for rear exhaust sections, with prices varying from £66 on eBay item no 380254995618 to £100+.

not being mechanically minded, getting a bit confused because of eBay.

even the though the back box section appears fine. does this need to be replaced. as everything is sold as a complete rear section. eBay confusing me because they sell back boxes alone w/out the pipe, so then thought you can just by the pipe section alone and replace that part, but cannot find this anywhere??

hope that makes sense
