Wing Mirror Sticking

Recommended Posts

Few days ago I noticed the drivers side wing mirror was very labored when opening or closing. Its also stuck a few times since. Tried WD40 but didn't help much. The motor sounds as if its really struggling to open it. Do they often fail??? Thanks

hi,as far as i can tell they dont often fail as i have owned two IS 200's and has never been an issue, try giving the casing a few gentle taps/knocks and spray again with WD 40 and see what happens.

I tried again earlier today and it seems a bit better, at one point it stopped working altogether after i was opening and closing it a few times. Going to leave it and try again tomorrow, must have used half a can of WD40 already...... there was a fair amount of filth and dirt coming out when i sprayed it in. ......that sounds disgusting sorry.

All sorted out, used Wynns dry lubricant ( quite a bit) all sorts of brown sludge came out from behind the mirror, anyway the drivers mirror now closes faster than the passenger side now!!!

Hi Bobba. I've got the same issue. Drivers side has always been slower than the passenger but now is struggling and stops 3/4 open.

Where did you spray the lube? Behind the mirror itself or into the hinge mechanism? I'll have a go tomorrow sometime.

cheers

Spray behind the mirror that's where the motor is there is only wireing in the hinge part.

Thanks Bobba. Just been out and blasted it and worked it back and forth a few times. Seems to have improved things somewhat so I've done the other one too. It's still quicker on the passenger side - is that normal?

cheers

Keep doing it, I used virtually the whole can there was lots of brown sludge coming out of mine, and in the end it was quicker than the passenger side. After the bad snow and frost we had however my passenger side one started to stick need to give it the onceover as well.
