Handbrake On Is300 Need Adjusting?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've just been getting settled in with my new IS300 but have been finding that the handbrake needs to be yanked up as far as it can possibly go to prevent the car from creeping forwards at the lights (Automatic). Is this normal, or should I get it checked out?

Also those of you with Auto's, do you leave it in drive at the lights and hold it with the hand/brake, or do you slip it in park/neutral to save the brakes?

I've got a manual, but the handbrake is ***** poor, needs adjusting. You can do it from the lever itself but Ive been warned against doing that, best way is to adjust each drum.

Hi

Handbrakes do need adjusting quite often on both 200 and 300. On my auto there is hardly any creep, and so holding on the h.brake (properly adjusted) is not a prob....is your tickover speed correct? if its a bit high it can cause creep!

Hmm good point I'll have to check next time I'm out and about. It does seem to creep quite a lot. But nowhere near as much as it does in reverse. I swear that car does about 30mph in reverse without my foot on the pedal! lol

my handbrake is pathetic, been adjusted already but it needs "ruffing up" again as its just not holding

Glad it's not just me then. I may take it to a local mechanic to see if they can adjust it.

I've not had to park it on a significant incline yet, but if it cant even hold against the cars creep, then it aint going to be much good on a steep hill.
