msn-wink.gifCan anyone recommend a good lacquer for the alloys ? just had two wheels refurbished under warranty and I would like to make sure they dont corrode again . Thanks msn-wink.gif

Be interested to see peoples views as I would like to maintain mine!

Got my 18's refurbished when I bought the car (by an independant garage). Came up really nice but want to maintain it. So far just cleaning with a wheel cleaning brush and standard car wash mix, then when applying wax apply it to wheels. Dont let car washers put that wheel cleaner on.

(Dont let car washers put that wheel cleaner on.)

So does that wheel cleaner affect the wheels? What alternatives should I use then?

Ta.

Hi, I have read a few times to avoid the wheel cleaners on the forecourts as they can be quite a strong acid, hence not help the corrosion!

I dont have a problem cleaning with normal car shampoo and wheel brush and a bit of elbow grease, hence dont need a cleaner. For protection, like I say I use normal car wax but am interested in what other products people use.

Hi, just received delivery of my is 250 and it came with new wheels having been replaced under warranty due to small area of corrosion, so am interested in this topic, as I too would like to ensure they don't go the same way again after a couple of years. Is this a known fault with alloys? I had the same problem with my old A4 where water got in behind the laquour. I agree with the post about waxing, as some of those alloy cleaners on the market are quite acidy and could damage the laquour. I wouldn't use a car wash either as I think they scratch the paintwork too much. You can't beat regular cleaning to keep the grime from building up and a gentle hand wash and waxing.
